Jmb band live biography
Hard-working Baltimore band and Relix Magazine's JamOFF! winner, John Mancini Band, blends original songwriting with a dynamic rhythm section, bridging blues-fueled folk rock and funked-up jazz fusion. Supporting national acts like Garaj Mahal, as well as Mad Sweet Pangs, The Macpodz, and other well known jambands, JMB continues to turn ears and expand their fan base.
John Mancini started writing songs while working as a house painter in Crested Butte, Colorado in 2003. He worked as a production assistant for Warner Brothers and HBO in Los Angeles, published two short stories, won awards at international film festivals, worked in a liquor store, went to graduate school in Mississippi, visited every city in Mexico, came across and unclaimed piece of meat in Baja, left New Orleans two days before Katrina arrived, and soon after began teaching film and writing at Towson University where he started John Mancini Band in 2007. The band played over thirty regional shows in 2008, at venues including The 8x10, the Recher Theatre, and Ram’s Head Tavern. They were invited to perform at the Baltimore Music Conference, The Baltimore Jazz & Blues Fesitval, and Philadelphia's Moore College of Art.
John Mancini was mentioned honorably for his song, Buried Alive, in the 16th Annual Billboard World Song Contest. The song, Pirate Sun, was a runner-up in the Gary Allen Music City Song Evaluation. John recently collaborated with fellow Rhode Island School of Design graduates at the Brooklyn-based indie label, Banana Apple Records, to produce a solo EP. His songs are currently in rotation on iRadioLA.com, RadioNY.org, and WTMD, and were chosen by Hella Good Records and Sound Foundation Audio for inclusion in their film and television placement library. JMB, John Mancini Band’s 2009 self-produced full-length debut album, is available on CDbaby, iTunes, and MySpace.
